Roc Nation Leads Campaign to Help Underprivileged Students Secure $300 Million in Scholarships

Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z, has announced a new philanthropic initiative aimed at improving youth education for underprivileged students in Philadelphia. On Friday, June 7, Roc Nation revealed plans to assist students with approximately $300 million in scholarships, offering children in grades K-12 the chance to attend prestigious private schools and other educational institutions across the city.

The campaign will spread awareness through a series of events held daily from June 10 to June 21 throughout the greater Philadelphia area. Attendees will learn about the PASS program (Pennsylvania Award for Student Success), also known as Senate Bill 757. The initiative underscores Roc Nation’s commitment to investing in the long-term success of Philadelphia’s youth.

“We have enjoyed such a special connection with Philadelphians, so we’ve made it our mission to invest in the long-term success of the city’s changemakers,” said Dania Diaz, Roc Nation’s Managing Director of Philanthropy. “Impact starts with the students and with awareness. We want to empower the youth and families with the knowledge to pursue their scholastic dreams, make their voices heard, and become the leaders of tomorrow.”

The scholarships will vary based on students’ age groups and educational levels. Half-day kindergarteners will receive $2,500, K-8th graders will get $5,000, and high schoolers can secure $10,000. Special needs children of any age will be eligible for $15,000 in scholarship funding. To qualify, a student’s family must not earn more than 250 percent of the federal poverty threshold, currently set at $75,000 for a family of four.

Roc Nation’s connection to Philadelphia extends beyond this initiative. The company has previously hosted the annual Made In America festival on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and has supported the REFORM Alliance, which has been instrumental in passing legislation to assist citizens on parole or probation in Pennsylvania.

Jay-Z and Roc Nation continue to demonstrate their dedication to uplifting and empowering communities, with this latest campaign marking a significant investment in the future of Philadelphia’s youth.
