Famed American rapper Travis Scott, 33, was taken into custody by French authorities early Friday morning following an altercation with his bodyguard at the five-star George V Hotel in Paris. The incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m., leading to the rapper’s arrest, according to a statement from the Paris prosecutor’s office.
The altercation reportedly began as a dispute between Scott and his bodyguard, escalating to the point where a hotel security guard felt compelled to intervene. French police were promptly called to the scene, where Scott, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, was arrested for allegedly assaulting the security guard.
“I can confirm that on August 9, 2024, shortly after 5 a.m., the police were called to the George V Hotel and arrested the man known as Travis Scott for assaulting a security guard,” a spokesperson for the Paris prosecutor’s office said. “The security guard had stepped in to separate the rapper from his bodyguard. The 1st judicial police district has been tasked with the investigation.”

A representative for Scott issued a brief statement, assuring the public that they are in direct communication with local authorities to resolve the matter quickly. “We will provide updates when appropriate,” the statement read.
Insiders close to Scott have downplayed the severity of the situation, indicating that the rapper is expected to be released soon. According to these sources, no injuries were reported during the incident, and no formal charges have been filed.
“After multiple days of being chased and harassed by paparazzi, and after being swarmed with no assistance, Travis was arrested at his hotel following an unfortunate altercation with his own security detail,” said a source close to the rapper. “This was merely a misunderstanding.”
The arrest comes just hours after Scott attended Team USA’s basketball semifinal against Serbia at the Paris 2024 Olympics on August 8. This incident marks the second time Scott has had a run-in with the law in recent months. On June 20, he was arrested in Miami on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing after a warning. However, Scott’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, clarified that the Miami incident was a result of a misunderstanding and that no physical altercation occurred.
As the investigation in Paris continues, Scott’s team is working to ensure a swift resolution, hoping to put the matter behind them as soon as possible.
