Chidinma Adetshina, a former contestant in the Miss South Africa beauty pageant, has officially announced her participation in the upcoming Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 competition. The 23-year-old beauty queen shared her excitement in a video message posted on X.com, where she thanked her supporters and revealed her decision to represent Nigeria in the prestigious event.

The announcement was shared by Ben Murray-Bruce, founder of the Silverbird Group, who are the organizers of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant. In the video, Adetshina expressed her gratitude, saying, “I cannot start this video without expressing my gratitude to the incredible people who have shown me so much love and support.” She continued, “I have received an invitation from the Silverbird Group, the organizers of the Miss Universe Nigeria Beauty Pageant. Adetshina, who previously faced significant backlash regarding her nationality during her time in the Miss South Africa competition, acknowledged the responsibilities that come with such a prestigious title. “I understand the expectations and responsibilities that come with this title, and I am so excited to embark on this journey,” she stated. “Thank you so much for this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to participating in Africa’s most prestigious beauty pageant, Miss Universe Nigeria.”

Her participation in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant comes after she withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition on August 8, citing concerns for her family’s safety due to the backlash she received. Adetshina’s withdrawal drew attention to the challenges she faced and opened the door for her to take on a new challenge in her native country.

In an official statement signed by Guy Murray-Bruce, the National Director of Miss Universe Nigeria, Adetshina was formally invited to compete in the 2024 edition of the pageant. The invitation served as both a show of support and an acknowledgment of her resilience in the face of adversity.

As she prepares to compete in one of Africa’s most prestigious beauty contests, Adetshina is eager to turn the page and represent Nigeria on a global stage. Her journey highlights her determination and commitment to embracing new opportunities, despite the challenges she has faced along the way.
