Black female business owners face discrimination, inequality, and a disproportionate number of challenges. Supporting Black-Owned businesses fosters empowerment within the Black community, increases representation and works to close the racial wealth gap.

Pam’s Kitchen

Originally from Trinidad, Chef Pam Jacob arrived in Seattle over 20 years ago with the dream of opening a restaurant. From catering events for her house cleaning clients to a booth at a University District street fair, Pam quickly became a household name when she opened Pam’s Kitchen in 2006. Pam’s Kitchen works to educate the Seattle community about Trinidadian food and culture. Their cuisine boasts an abundance of spice and flavor and is influenced by the distinctive ingredients and cultural heritage of the Caribbean.

Nothing sets the vibe for a self-care night like lighting your favorite candle. At Noir Lux Candle Bar, you can spend a relaxing afternoon making your new favorite candle which will guarantee the perfect ambiance for your next night in. In 2020, Colina Bruce began making candles in her kitchen to send to friends and family. Her “pandemic passion project” swiftly transformed into Noir Lux Candle Co. In 2022 she opened a bustling brick-and-mortar location in the heart of Seattle. Noir Lux is one of the first Black woman-owned candle bars in the nation; where you can create a custom, hand-poured candle. First, select your candle’s vessel, then choose from a variety of non-toxic fragrances to create the perfect scent and pour in premium soy wax. Your candle will be ready in about an hour and while you wait you can browse through their retail space which sells their signature candles and goods from local Black-owned businesses. Take yourself on a self-care date, bring friends or host a private event and make your next celebration a candle-pouring party!

City Sweats

If the gloomy weather has you feeling chilly and rundown, warm up and experience head-to-toe wellness at City Sweats. Industry pioneer and founder of City Sweats Dee Alams brought infrared sweat therapy to Seattle nearly 10 years ago. Infrared sweat therapy is thought to decrease inflammation, improve circulation, relieve stress and boost the immune system.
