In a surprising move, President Joe Biden announced on X that he will not seek re-election in 2024 and has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. The decision comes after weeks of speculation about Biden’s health and his capacity to serve another term.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” Biden posted.
Biden’s decision has sparked a wave of reactions across the political spectrum. Many Democrats expressed excitement about the historic opportunity to elect the first Black woman president, while others voiced concerns about Harris’s ability to garner widespread support.

Journalist Don Lemon discussed potential running mates for Harris, mentioning Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as possible choices.
Biden is expected to address the nation later this week to provide further details on his decision and the future direction of the Democratic Party. As the political landscape shifts, the focus now turns to how Harris will navigate her campaign and unite the party to secure a victory in the upcoming election.
