Renowned rapper and actor Don Omar has publicly revealed his cancer diagnosis. The Puerto Rican-born artist, whose real name is William Omar Landrón Rivera, shared the news on Monday through an Instagram post. He posted an image of himself wearing a hospital bracelet with a caption in Spanish that translates to, “Today yes, but tomorrow I won’t have cancer. Good intentions are well received. See you soon. #f—cancer.”
The 46-year-old star, currently on a break from his “Back to Reggaeton” tour, is set to resume performances in August, with a stop in Oakland, California. The tour will continue throughout the United States and Canada, visiting cities such as Boston, Denver, and Toronto, and is scheduled to conclude on September 15.
Omar’s illustrious career spans over two decades, during which he has released eight albums. He has been nominated for 13 Latin Grammy Awards and has won two. The artist did not provide further details about his condition in the post, and his representative has not yet responded to requests for additional comments from Entertainment Weekly.
Just two days before his announcement, Omar shared an Instagram Reel featuring dancers auditioning to join his tour. He expressed his gratitude in the post, writing, “The most special thing about today’s auditions is seeing that there are people who want to dare to dream with me. Thank you to each of you who gave your all on the dance floor! This second stage of the tour comes with everything.”
In December, Omar notably ended a longstanding feud with fellow musician Daddy Yankee following the latter’s announcement of his retirement. This reconciliation was seen as a significant moment in the reggaeton community.
Omar’s fans and colleagues have since flooded social media with messages of support, wishing him a speedy recovery and strength during this challenging time. The artist’s determination and positive outlook have been sources of inspiration for many as he faces this new chapter in his life.
