Renowned journalist and philanthropist Gayle King is set to be honored by Dress for Success Worldwide at its annual Women Who Inspire power lunch on September 27. The ceremony will celebrate King’s remarkable contributions to broadcast journalism and her dedication to uplifting and empowering women.
The event will also spotlight the organization’s mission of connecting women to practical and sustainable resources that foster economic opportunities and independence.
“The time is now to strategically rethink traditional pathways to landing a job, keeping a job, and building a career,” said Michele C. Meyer-Shipp, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide, in a statement. She emphasized the organization’s commitment to addressing critical issues such as flexible work schedules, childcare, and support systems for unemployed and underemployed women.

During the lunch, King will join Meyer-Shipp and Lucy Kaylin, Senior Vice President of Content at Hearst Magazines, for a fireside chat. The conversation will center on advancing women’s professional journeys and breaking barriers to economic independence.
The power lunch also serves as a key fundraising initiative for Dress for Success, enabling the organization to offer no-cost programs designed to help women achieve both personal and professional growth.
The importance of such initiatives is underscored by labor force data that reveal men continue to hold a disproportionate share of jobs despite recent gains in employment.
“Our mission is to show that access to opportunities can change lives,” Meyer-Shipp shared in a previous interview with ESSENCE. “When women have the tools they need, they become powerful beyond measure.”
As a trailblazer in her field, King embodies the values of Dress for Success, making her a fitting honoree for an event dedicated to inspiring ambition and creating pathways to success for women worldwide.
