Five Black Celebrities Who Have Helped in Supporting Their People

Africa may be developing at a fast pace but it is not enough to make this rich continent have enough for itself in supporting her people. However, thanks to some celebrities with a big hearts who have gone out of their ways in making sure they make up for their lack of others.

Waje

 

Waje gives back to the society through her “Waje’s Safe House”, an NGO that fights for the cause of the people.  The first project supported under Waje’s Safe House was the Mental and Environmental Development Initiative for Children, assisting the Project HELP (Help Educate the Less Privileged) which the goal of raising funds for allowing children to continue their studies in the school in Makoko.  Waje’s Safe House is partnering with women organisations in 3 cities in Nigeria to provide computer education and facilities to young and adult women.

 

 Charlize Theron

Academy award-winning South African born actress and film producer Charlize Theron has starred in several Hollywood films , such as The Devil’s Advocate, Mighty Joe Young, The Cider House Rules, Monster ,  The Italian Job,  Hancock, A Million Ways to Die in the West, Mad Max: Fury Road and her latest movie” The Fate of the Furious ”

With her The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, Ms Theron directly supports young Africans in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Though the geographic scope of CTAOP is Sub-Saharan Africa, it has primarily focused its activities in her home country South Africa. CTAOP has directly collaborated with Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network providing lead funding to Mpilonle, a community based South African non-profit that provides mobile health services to schools in the impoverished uMkhanayade district of Kwazulu.

 

Didier Drogba

 

He created the Didier Drogba Foundation in 2007. In 2013, The foundation distributed billboards and health materials across Africa in the lead up to and during the 2013 Orange Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. DDF has also been supporting the not for profit United Against Malaria [UAM] since 2012. He is a global superstar and one of Africa’s hottest soccer players who continues to support humanitarian activities across the world.

Alek Wek

 

 

Alek is a born Supermodel and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador’s NGO , who took a journey back Home to establish a foundation for her people and africa at large . Through the foundation, Alek supports the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to expand and launch life changing projects in the areas of education, agriculture and health in her home country of South Sudan where it is helping 700, 000 South Sudanese rebuild their lives.

 

 

Asa

 

Bukola Elemide is known as Asa . She was born in Paris, France to her Nigerian parents. Her family returned to live in Nigeria when she was two.  Asa started the ‘Dreamer Girl which takes care of  literacy in primary schools in Nigeria. Asa and her foundation have helped in the building of library with the support of other organizations.
