Actress Gabourey Sidibe has recently joined the ranks of motherhood, and she’s experiencing double the joy. The 41-year-old Oscar nominee welcomed twins—a boy named Cooper and a girl named Maya—with her husband Brandon Frankel in April. The couple shared their happiness with the world through an exclusive family photoshoot featuring their adorable twins in matching onesies, capturing the hearts of fans who noted the striking resemblance of each twin to their parents.
Sidibe and Frankel first announced their pregnancy with twins on Instagram in February. In their recent interviews, they shared insights into the twins’ names and their journey into parenthood. “Brandon always wanted to name a son Cooper, so we call him ‘Coop,’ and Maya was named shortly before our babymoon to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico,” Sidibe explained. “Both twins have traditional West African middle names after members of my family.”

The twins have already begun to showcase their distinct personalities. Sidibe described Cooper as having “the funniest facial expressions” and a love for sleep, while Maya, dubbed the “queen of comedic timing,” delights in having her name sung to her. “They’re both extremely strong and hilarious, though they have yet to really interact with each other. Cooper will sometimes speak for Maya and alert us that she’s about to spit up,” Sidibe added. Both twins love cuddling with their mom and dad.
The twins’ arrival was a surprise even to their parents. “We originally were going in for a routine appointment, only to be told the twins would be coming later that day and not when originally planned,” Sidibe recounted.
As for what lies ahead, Sidibe and Frankel are eagerly anticipating the simple joys of parenthood. “We’re excited for outfits and getting them dressed up, for sing-alongs, trips and to explore, and raising them to be good people,” she said.
