Jamie Foxx revealed more about the health scare that left him hospitalized and out of the public eye for over a month in 2023. In April of that year, Foxx experienced a sudden medical emergency that required immediate hospitalization. While his daughter Corinne assured fans of his recovery via social media, Foxx himself had remained largely silent about the incident until now.
In a recent TikTok video posted by Dr. Debra Combs, Foxx addressed a group of bystanders, recounting his ordeal. “I had a bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil,” he said. “[Snaps fingers] Boom, I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything.”
Foxx, however, did not disclose the exact cause of his health scare. He mentioned that he was in Atlanta when it happened. “They told me [that] my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor and he said, ‘Nah’ and gave me a cortisone shot. The next doctor said, ‘There’s something going on up there.’ [Foxx points to his head] I won’t say it on camera, but it was…[shakes head to indicate the gravity of the situation].”

His daughter, Corinne Foxx, was the first to break the news of his medical complication on social media in April 2023. “We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,” she wrote. “Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.”
Foxx remained hospitalized for several weeks with few updates provided to the public. In July, Foxx posted a self-recorded video addressing his fans directly. “I just didn’t want you to see me like that,” he explained. “I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, a television show. I just didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through…I went to hell and back. I’ve been sick, man. But now, I’ve got my legs under me, so you’re gonna see me out.”
Throughout 2023, Foxx provided periodic updates on his social media platforms. In December, while accepting the Vanguard Award at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema and Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements, he revealed a harrowing detail of his experience. Foxx shared that he had seen a “hot tunnel” rather than the often-described “light” when confronted with his own mortality.
Foxx is set to return to the screen in Netflix’s “Back in Action,” starring opposite Cameron Diaz in her highly anticipated return to acting.
