Actress Julia Fox recently opened up about her short-lived romance with Kanye West, expressing regret over their highly publicized relationship in early 2022. In a candid interview with the U.K.’s Sunday Times, Fox, 34, reflected on the challenges she faced during the brief affair, which lasted only a few weeks but left a lasting impression.
“I regret that relationship so much,” Fox admitted during the interview. “I hate it! It was only a few weeks but enough to last me a lifetime. I was in probably the most uncomfortable position in my life, and that’s saying a lot.” She also made it clear that she never wanted to be known solely as someone’s girlfriend, a label she felt overshadowed her own identity.
The Uncut Gems star went on to reveal that making their relationship public wasn’t her idea. According to Fox, she had suggested keeping things private, but the decision to go public was made without her consent. “I felt like we should wait, but then boom, it was done behind my back,” she said. Fox soon realized that she was being used in a larger narrative—one that centered on West’s efforts to get back at his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. “I realized pretty quickly I was being used as a pawn,” she reflected.
Fox credited her son, 3-year-old Valentino, for helping her find the strength to walk away from the situation. Describing him as her “grounding force,” she explained, “It was like, I can’t go down this spiral because no man, no matter how rich or famous, is worth one minute away from my child.”

The actress first confirmed her relationship with West in January 2022 through Interview Magazine, sharing how they met on New Year’s Eve in Miami and developed what she called an “instant connection.” However, her initial excitement soon gave way to discomfort. In her 2023 memoir Down the Drain, Fox revealed that West had pressured her to publish a fabricated version of how they met, which bore little resemblance to the truth. She ultimately chose a narrative that blended her version with his, but looking back, the manipulation became clear.
Though she didn’t mention West by name in her memoir, Fox referred to him as “the artist” and shared another troubling detail: West allegedly demanded that she sign a non-disclosure agreement, texting her that he couldn’t continue their friendship otherwise. “I’ll live,” Fox replied, standing her ground and refusing his request.
In a 2023 interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Fox further elaborated on how taxing the relationship had become. Comparing it to raising a second child, she noted, “My son has to be first. It just became too much, like I didn’t sign up to have two babies.” She acknowledged that West needed constant attention, something she wasn’t able or willing to provide.
Fox has also been candid about her evolving sense of self. In a TikTok video posted in July, she appeared to come out as a lesbian, humorously responding to a joke about women dating men despite disliking them. “I was that lesbian,” Fox quipped. “So sorry, boys. Won’t happen again.” When asked by The Sunday Times if she would consider dating women, Fox confirmed, “I’d definitely be up for a relationship with a woman.”
As she continues to reflect on her past and forge her own path, Fox seems determined to stay true to herself, learning valuable lessons from her experiences while focusing on what truly matte
