The late Lisa Marie Presley has posthumously shared new insights into her relationship with pop icon Michael Jackson. Her memoir, From Here To The Great Unknown, completed by her daughter Riley Keough using voice recordings made prior to Lisa Marie’s passing in January 2023, delves into the private side of their marriage. One of the most surprising revelations in the memoir is Jackson’s claim that he was still a virgin when he began dating Lisa Marie, a confession that reportedly shocked her.
At the time, Michael Jackson was 35 years old, and Lisa Marie was 25. The couple’s whirlwind romance led to their marriage in May 1994, just months after Lisa Marie’s divorce from her first husband, Danny Keough. According to Lisa Marie’s memoir, Jackson confessed his love for her during a trip to Las Vegas, despite her still being married to Keough at the time. He expressed his desire for them to marry and start a family, a sentiment that left Lisa Marie momentarily speechless.
“I didn’t know what to say at first,” Lisa Marie wrote, describing how Jackson’s bold confession took her by surprise. However, she eventually admitted she had developed feelings for him as well.
Lisa Marie also shared in her memoir that early in their relationship, Jackson confided that he was “still a virgin.” He went on to disclose that his past relationships, including those with actress Brooke Shields and singer Madonna, had been non-physical. This revelation left Lisa Marie feeling apprehensive, worried about making the wrong move in their relationship.
Their marriage, though passionate, was also fraught with challenges. Just two years after their wedding, Lisa Marie filed for divorce in January 1996, citing irreconcilable differences. Jackson’s growing dependency on drugs and the mounting pressures from child sexual abuse allegations against him created significant strain between the couple. Lisa Marie supported Jackson during the legal battles but encouraged him to settle the lawsuits, as revealed in J. Randy Taraborrelli’s biography of Jackson.

Despite the divorce, Lisa Marie admitted to attempting reconciliation with Jackson multiple times after their separation. However, their efforts to rekindle the relationship ultimately failed, and they went their separate ways for good. The couple did not have children together, although Lisa Marie had two children, Riley and Benjamin, from her previous marriage to Danny Keough. Tragically, her son Benjamin died by suicide in 2020.
After her split from Jackson, Lisa Marie married actor Nicolas Cage in 2002, though their marriage lasted just over three months. Her final marriage, to musician Michael Lockwood, spanned from 2006 to 2021, and they had twin daughters, Finley and Harper.
Michael Jackson passed away in June 2009, following a cardiac arrest caused by a combination of sedatives and anti-anxiety medications. His personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter for his role in Jackson’s death. Lisa Marie Presley herself died in January 2023, following a cardiac arrest. Although she was briefly revived, she passed away later that day. Her death was attributed to complications from bariatric surgery she had undergone years earlier, and not from the opioids found in her system at the time.
Lisa Marie’s memoir offers an intimate glimpse into her turbulent marriage with Jackson, shedding light on both the deep affection they shared and the difficulties that ultimately led to their split.
