Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan isn’t rushing into fatherhood anytime soon. The 38-year-old actor, best known for his roles in Creed and Black Panther, recently opened up in a GQ cover story about his decision to delay having children. His reasoning? A deep desire to be fully present when he eventually steps into that role.
“I Want to Be the Best Dad”
Jordan, whose career continues to soar as both an actor and a budding director, admitted that now is simply not the right time to start a family. He explained that he’s intensely focused on his professional growth and wouldn’t want to divide his attention between that and fatherhood.
“I’m competitive, and I know I would want to be the best dad,” he shared. “But right now, I’m trying to do my best at this part of my life as well.”
While Jordan acknowledges that many men his age, including his own father, had already started families, he believes in laying a solid foundation before taking that step. “My dad had two kids at this age,” he reflected. “But you have to realize, the time you put in now is building something solid.”
Beyond pressing pause on fatherhood, Jordan also appears to be in no rush to jump into a serious relationship. As of 2024, the actor remains single, with his last public relationship being with Lori Harvey, which ended in June 2022.

During a separate conversation on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Jordan admitted that despite his busy lifestyle, he sometimes feels lonely. “There’s a loneliness that I have. The responsibility that you have is isolating, and the weight is isolating,” he said. “The worst part of that is the feeling like nobody really understands.”
While he goes back and forth on whether he’s ready for a relationship, Jordan made it clear that finding the right partner isn’t a simple task. “It’s not just ‘I love you, you love me,’” he explained. “It would take a very special person to understand and grow with me.”
For now, Jordan is channeling his energy into his career, balancing his time between acting and directing. While his fans may have to wait a little longer before seeing him as a father, his commitment to personal growth and professional excellence suggests that when the time comes, he’ll be more than ready.
As for his love life? That remains to be seen. But one thing is certain—whoever steps into Jordan’s world will need to be just as intentional about growth and understanding as he is.
