Usher Receives ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award
Diamond-certified R&B icon Usher, 45, was honored with the distinguished ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award. This accolade is given to members who have made a significant impact on music and culture. Usher joins the ranks of past honorees such as Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and D-Nice.
In his acceptance speech, Usher emphasized the power of words and intention. “As writers and creatives, be impeccable with your words. Understand that the intention behind each and everything that you say is empowering. It is an affirmation that becomes a reality. And if you believe in what you see or you think it can happen, don’t assume. Talk to each other. Encourage each other,” he said. He concluded with a motivational note, “Do your best, do your best, offer your best and great things will happen.”

Monét began her speech by reflecting on the meaning of the word “vanguard.” She said, “I had to look it up because I just wanted to know, what does vanguard really mean? And the words associated with vanguard are trailblazers, innovators, pioneers, pathfinders. It means to be on the front line and lead.”
She continued by acknowledging her team’s crucial role in her success. “And though I do view myself as a leader, as a conglomerate, my creativity, vision, and movements, my brilliant team stands right beside me, never behind me. We all have been on the very front line together in this war on success, meticulously converting every non-believer into a believer with hard work and consistency. We shoot. Not eye level, but for the stars. And it truly takes a strong team to go from underdog to vanguard. So thank you so much.”
