When Beyoncé offers business advice, it’s wise to take heed. Megan Thee Stallion recently shared how a conversation with the music icon inspired her latest entrepreneurial venture. During an interview with Shannon Sharpe on his YouTube channel, Club Shay Shay, Megan recounted how Beyoncé motivated her to start her own tequila brand.
Reflecting on her tumultuous experience with the record label 1501 Certified Entertainment, Megan revealed, “When I was in the situation with [1501] and I wanted to get out of it, they told me you need to do this on your own. Like, ‘You already know what it is. You already have all the tools. All the legal sh*t you are going through, I know you are learning something. So you should figure out how to get out here and be your own boss.’”
Megan also shared that Beyoncé suggested she make a strategic move after her split with 1501. “Beyoncé is actually the person that inspired me to get my own tequila,” she said. “Because I used to be the cognac queen. I still am the cognac queen. But as much as I used to enjoy cognac, and I’ve promoted a lot of people’s liquor brands, she was like, ‘the next time I see you, you better have your own. You need to have your own alcohol.’”

This revelation comes on the heels of Megan’s announcement during Social Media Week 2024, as reported by ESSENCE, that she is working on launching her own tequila brand in addition to creating new music. “I create the things that I want to see, I don’t create things for other people to like them,” Megan explained. “I create the music I want to hear, I go and do my own thing and stay true to me.”
Megan Thee Stallion’s decision to venture into the tequila market is just one of the many smart business moves she has made recently. Her star continues to rise, and in February, Warner Music Group (WMG) announced a partnership with her. This agreement grants Megan full rights as an independent musician while providing access to WMG’s global services, including radio promotion and worldwide marketing.
As Megan Thee Stallion continues to blaze trails in both music and business, her latest venture into the spirits industry showcases her determination to create her own path and build a legacy inspired by the empowering advice of Beyoncé.
