The Weeknd to Make Big Screen Debut with Psychological Thriller ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’

The Weeknd is set to bring his music and storytelling talents to the big screen in his first-ever film, Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring alongside actors Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The highly anticipated film, an extension of The Weeknd’s upcoming album of the same name, will be a musically-infused psychological thriller distributed by Lionsgate.

Hurry Up Tomorrow will mark a new artistic chapter for The Weeknd, blending music and cinema to explore themes of self-reflection and existential struggle. The story centers on a character grappling with feelings of stasis and transformation—a concept that The Weeknd recently hinted at on social media. “I look in the mirror and feel both old and new, stuck in limbo and unable to move,” he shared, offering fans insight into the thematic underpinnings of the film and album.

In addition to his starring role, The Weeknd will score the film in collaboration with Daniel Lopatin, also known as Oneohtrix Point Never, with whom he has previously worked. Together, they aim to create a haunting musical landscape that mirrors the film’s psychological depth. Notably, Jenna Ortega will serve as an executive producer alongside Trey Edward Shults, Michael Rapino, Ryan Kroft, Harrison Huffman, and Wassim “Sal” Slaiby.

Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate’s chairman, voiced his enthusiasm for this unique project. “Abel [The Weeknd] is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium,” he stated. “With Hurry Up Tomorrow, his musical universe expands onto the big screen, creating a cinematic experience unlike anything audiences have seen.”

The film also represents the culmination of a trilogy in The Weeknd’s discography, following the albums After Hours and Dawn FM. A recent teaser for the album, featuring the song “Dancing in the Flames” and shot entirely on the iPhone 16 Pro, hints at the tone and style fans can expect in the full cinematic experience.

While Lionsgate has yet to announce an official release date, anticipation for Hurry Up Tomorrow continues to build as fans await The Weeknd’s innovative entry into the world of film.
